Meta and Media Literacy Coalition co-organize a panel discussion + Q&A on 13 September, in Sofia on the topic of
Content moderation in Bulgaria: a conversation with Meta
with focus on disinformation.
In sixty minutes, Meta’s Central and Eastern Europe Public Policy Director Jacob Turowski, Mariya Yurukova – lecturer at Sofia University and a media policy and disinformation expert, Factcheck Bulgaria’s Dr. Nikola Tulechki, a knowledge engineer and data analyst, and U.S. Embassy’s Information Officer Peter Vanderwall will exchange their expertise in a moderated discussion. In the second half of the event, the panelists will take questions from the audience composed of experts in the field and members of civil society organizations.
About the speakers:
Jacob Turowski is responsible for building relationships between Meta and legislators, regulators, NGOs, and other communities interested in the Internet’s impact on society and the economy. He currently leads Meta’s Central and Eastern Europe’s public policy efforts based out of Warsaw, Poland.
Dr Mariya Yurukova is a disinformation and media analysis researcher and lecturer at Sofia University. She holds a PhD in Media Policy and Law of the European Union and is an expert in legislative initiatives and soft law measures against harmful content online.
Dr Nikola Tulechki is a knowledge engineer with a PhD in Natural Language Processing. He is an open data activist, and a data consultant to Factcheck.bg – now part of the International Fact-checking Network.
Peter Vanderwall has been a United States Foreign Service Officer since 2014. He is the Information Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Sofia. Before serving in Bulgaria, he was posted to Baghdad, Iraq, and Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.
The panel discussion will be moderated by Iglika Ivanova – а board member of the Media Literacy Coalition, and a PhD candidate in media policy and law with a focus on platform governance.
